In the latest of a flurry of roster moves this week, the Saints waived backup linebacker Todd Davis on Wednesday for at least the second time since Oct. 20.

Davis’ spot will be occupied by wide receiver Joseph Morgan, who returned to practice Wednesday after a two-game suspension. The Saints also waived guard/center Eric Olsen and placed rookie safety Vinnie Sunseri (fractured arm) on season-ending injured reserve, and their spots were occupied by free-agent veteran acquisitions Jamarca Sanford (safety) and Brian Leonard (running back).

An undrafted rookie out of Sacramento State, Davis has been on and off both the practice squad and the active roster for the Saints (4-5) virtually all season.

Recently, he was promoted to the active roster for an Oct. 19 defeat at Detroit. He then returned to the practice squad for a bit but was promoted to the active roster again for a win at Carolina on Oct. 30 and a loss at home to San Francisco this past Sunday.

Davis was on the active roster for the Carolina and San Francisco games while veteran linebacker David Hawthorne recovered from a hand injury. Hawthorne was at practice Wednesday in a limited capacity — Ramon Humber started in his place for the two games he was out, and Davis provided depth.

Davis’ biggest contributions for the Saints this season have come on special teams, where he has 3.5 tackles, according to the NFL.

If Davis clears waivers unclaimed by another NFL team, it’s highly possible the Saints would bring him back to their practice squad.

The Saints host Cincinnati (5-3-1) this upcoming Sunday.
