The Saints are promoting rookie receiver Seantavius Jones from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, a league source told The Advocate on Thursday.
Multiple sources told The Advocate that Jones had been informed of his promotion on Wednesday, but it became official on Thursday morning.
Undrafted out of Valdosta State in Georgia, Jones is relatively tall for a wide receiver at 6-3. The 200-pounder caught three passes for 17 yards and a touchdown in preseason for the Saints, and he displayed an ability to catch passes thrown either deep or in traffic in training camp.
Jones also played 28 snaps of special teams in the preseason, at the end of which he was left off the team. He cleared waivers and has been on the Saints’ practice squad all season.
Jones will occupy the roster spot created by the departure of receiver Joseph Morgan, who was waived Tuesday. He will be under receivers Marques Colston, Kenny Stills, Nick Toon, Robert Meachem and Jalen Saunders on the depth chart.
